BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION B.B.A. HONS.

(THREE YEARS DEGREE LEVEL COURSE)

PATNA UNIVERSITY, PATNA


In order to keep pace with the growing demand for the professional education, the college administration has decided to introduce the three-year honours level course in Bachelor of Business administration (B.B.A.) from the academic session, 2005. The main objective of this programme is to fully equip the B.B.A. students with the latest trends in management skills so that our students may become successful management professionals and may be eligible for higher studies in management.

The college has also proposed to start a placement cell in near future in which the renowned companies will be invited to participate in the recruitment process to select the best talents from amongst the successful B.B.A. pass outs.

Duration of the course :-

The Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) Honours course shall cover a period of three academic years. The duration of the session shall be from July to May each year.

Eligibility of Admission :-

(i) Candidates seeking admission to the first year of the Degree of bachelor of Business Administration will be required to have passed the Intermediate Examination in Arts, Science or Commerce of a Board/University established or incorporated by law or any other examination recognized by Patna University as equivalent there to.

(ii) Admission to the B.B.A. Course shall be made on the basis of Merit List prepared on the basis of an entrance test and viva-voce examinations to be conducted by the college.

(iii) The reservation of seats shall be as per rules of the State Government/Patna University of SC, ST, EBC & BC girls Categories of candidates. All candidates seeking admission to the course shall have to pay full fee as prescribed in the regulations or modified from time to time.

STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE :

A candidate for the B.B.A. (Hons.) Examination shall be required to offer and be examined in 16 papers according to the following structure :

EXAMINATION:-

1. The University will hold examination at the end of the first, the second and the third years of Course to be known respectively as the B.B.A. honours Part I, Part II and Part III Examination.

2. There shall be a written examination duration for each of the Theory paper of three hours. The medium for the written examination shall be English / Hindi.

3. A student shall not be allowed to appear at the next B.B.A. Part II or B.B.A. Part III annual examination unless B.B.A. Part I or B.B.A. Part II she / he has passed the previous annual examination.

4. A carry over shall be allowed for failures in a maximum of one subjects at the Honours Part I and Part II examinations but such a candidate shall not be admitted to Part III Class unless she / he has passed in all subjects of Part I examination.

5. The marks of each paper shall consist of 20 marks for internal assessment (based on viva-voce, quiz, test, seminar, presentation, workshop etc.) and 80 marks for written exam to be conducted by University.

6. In order to be declared successful in Honours at the B.B.A. Hons. Exam the candidate shall have to pass in both theory and internal assessment / practical / project work separately with 45% marks. Minimum percentage of marks required of passing each of the subsidiary subjects will be 35%.

7. The following shall be the percentage of marks required for :

I. The 1st Class 60 percent and above in the aggregate, at the B.B.A. I, II, III taken together

II. The 2nd Class below 60% in aggregate

8. A candidate obtaining 75% marks or more in the aggregate at the BBA I, II, III taken together shall be declared to have passed in First Class with Distinction.

9. Each successful candidate at the B.B.A. (Part III) examinations will receive the Degree in the prescribed form (as approved by the Academic Council of the Patna University) specifying his name the name of the College and the Class in which he / she has passed the examination and admitted.

10. Other matters, if any, not covered under present regulations shall be governed by the regulation of Patna University.

COURSE OBJECTIVE:

Three year Degree course in B.B.A. (Three year Degree Course) Hons. has been designed mainly to create a suitable and sound base for professionals with sufficient training in the art of Business Management and entrepreneurship. This course aims at producing a competent and confident group of executives, ready to accept challenges and responsibilities under the fast changing and rapidly / expanding global economy.

MAJOR EMPHASIS:

The major emphasis of the entire B.B.A. Hons. programme shall be as follows

1. During the first year of studies emphasis will be on giving a firm foundation of knowledge of business administration with conceptual discussion in the various areas of management, economics, organization, accounting and statistics.

2. During the Second year of studies on expansion and exposition of acquired knowledge with supplementary skills in modern tools of management such as communication, MIS accounting, law, computer option, turn appreciation of the merits and limitations of environment and interness.

3. During the third and final year of studies emphasis will be on extending specialization of understanding to the three main channels of management practices, i.e. Finance, Marketing and Personnel.

4. Between the second and third year programme of B.B.A Hons., however, the students shall be required to obtain a practical Training of Business Operations and submit a Project Report. This will give them an opportunity of application of their theoretical knowledge to practical business issues as the future decision-makers.

ENTRANCE TEST:

The duration of the entrance test will be 120 minutes. The test will have objective types of questions. It will be followed by a viva voce. The test will consist of

(a) General Awareness

(b) English Language

(c) Aptitude Assessment

(d) Mathematics

Provisional admission is granted for a period of 15 days only. Fee once paid will not be refunded

Those who leave afterwards will have to pay the fee for the entire course (i.e. of 3 years). Only those who wish to complete the course are suggested to apply.

TRAINING GOALS:

The principal goals of B.B.A. Hons. Programme are as follows:

(i) To assist career development of managers both for external employment as well as for self employment opportunities.

(ii) To train the young mind towards professional specialization, value-orientation skill acquisition, group leadership, cooperation and team work in the managerial activities of an organization.

(iii) To serve as a basis of higher studies at the postgraduate level in management in various areas  such as marketing, finance, human resource development, etc.

(iv) To meet the growing demand for business executives under competitive globalization.

(v) To equip the participants with the techniques and strategies for facing challenges and utilizing opportunities to their best advantage in all managerial assignments.

(vi) To contribute towards a technological mind of studies with ability to use computers, gain the basics of MIS and develop the art of effective communication.

(vii) To help the process of translations of policies into actions by business leaders through proper decisions, prompt executions and economic implementations of economic policies.

The major purpose of B.B.A. Hons. Programme, therefore, is to extend a systematic and organized training of participants towards positive business behaviours with supportive qualities of self-confidence and a Sense of responsibility.

All this should offer his much-needed talent to attain:

(a) A Cost-effective culture in business management with ethical values to social expectations.

(b) A motivation towards professional integrity and national commitment.

(c) A status of success strategy and progress partner in both personal and organizational growth,&

(d) A right spirit for performance efficiency through a well-organised programme of participative learning

Moreover, they will be also guided to be a part of collective corporate organization as the members of a dedicated team responsible for the promotion, operation and expansion of business administrative system.

The fee structure from time shall be determined by the Principal, Patna College, Patna in consultation with staff council and approved by the Vice Chancellor, Patna University.

The Bachelor of Business Administration shall be placed in the Faculty of Commerce.

The Allahabad Bank has agreed to intend educational loan facilities to the selected candidates.


ORDINANCE FOR ADMISSION OF STUDENTS IN BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION DEGREE PROGRAMME (HONOURS) PATNA UNIVERSITY, PATNA :-

Admission to the Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) Honours shall be on self-financing basis.

Eligibility for admission :

1. Candidates seeking admission to the first of the Degree of Bachelor of Business Administration will be required to have passed with a minimum of 45% marks the Intermediate Examination in Arts/Science/Commerce of a Board/University established or incorporated by law or any other examination recognized by the university as equivalent there to.

2. Admission to the Bachelor of Business Administration course shall be made on the basis of merit list prepared after the entrance test including written and viva-voce examinations to be conducted by the College.

3. The maximum number of seats for the course in a College where a B.B.A. course started will be limited to 60 only which may be revised with prior permission of the State Govt. There shall be five additional seats for wards of NRI on payment and first-come-first-serve basis. The reservation of seats for the course shall be as per rules of the State Govt. / Patna University for SC, ST, EBC and OBC. All candidates seeking admission to the course shall pay full fees as prescribed in the regulations on modified from time to time under the provision of the regulations.

4. No applicant shall be admitted to the Course who has not applied for admission within the notified time, or who being selected for admission, does not get herself/himself enrolled within the specified time, except when the delay has been condoned by the Vice-Chancellor.

5. No applicant shall be admitted to the course who in the opinion of the Vice-Chancellor should not be admitted in the best interest of the university.


REGULATIONS FOR BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (B.B.A.) HONOURS EXAMINATION PATNA UNIVERSITY, PATNA (THREE YEAR DEGREE COURSE)

Duration of the course:

Duration of the course:

After the 2nd year annual examination, each student shall undergo a practical training of 8 weeks duration in an approved business/industrial/service organization and submit at least two copies of the Summer Training Report to the Head of the Department at least 15 days before the date of commencement of the Final year examinations. This Summer Training Report shall carry 100 marks and it shall be evaluated for 60 marks by two external examiners to be appointed by the University and 40 marks shall be awarded on the basis of their internal assessment.

Examination:

II Class – 45% and above but below 60% in aggregate

8. A candidate obtaining 75 percent marks or more shall be declared to have passed in First Class with Distinction.

9. In order to appear at the examination a candidate:

(a) must have 75% attendance

(b) must bear a good moral character

10. Each successful candidate at the B.B.A. (Part III) examinations shall receive her Degree in the prescribed form (as approved by the Academic Council of Patna University) specifying the name of the college and the class in which she was admitted.

11. Other provisions not covered under present regulations shall be governed by the regulation of Patna University.
