College is a constituent unit of the Patna University. Eminent faculty members from various Post Graduate Departments and the commerce Department engage classes regularly at Patna College. Patna College needs no introduction as its name is sufficient to reflect its image in the academic history of the country in general and Bihar in particular. The College was founded on the 9th January 1863 and since then, it has been maintaining high tradition of imparting quality liberal education under the traditional faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The College has produced an infinite number of the great academicians, administrators, social thinkers, advocates and researchers. It has been the temple of learning during the last 148 years and that is why this is known as the mother of higher education in Eastern India.
